Apology

I actually meant to jump before I was pushed on this one, but yes, I owe everyone an apology. My last entry was childish and petty, and had no place in a public forum. I was under a lot of stress, but that doesn't excuse my behaviour.

It should certainly never have become a personal attack against Charlotte and her design skills, and I unreservedly retract all comments I made in that regard. She is obviously extremely talented (I had no idea you would have had that many applicants!) and the quality of the magazine has already improved immensely from what it was at the start of the term.

I sincerely hope that we can lay this matter to rest and continue to work together as a team to produce a publication of a high standard.

Warning: High Geek Quotient

As you can see, I've completely overhauled the site. Again. The old design, while pretty, was also pretty broken, and I thought this simpler, more compliant design would be a little more soothing for both the eye and the browser.

A few things are still missing. I haven't skinned the news archives pages, so they're resplendent in their default MovableType glory until I fix them, which might be later tonight, if I feel like it. But who reads the news archives? Honestly? Also, the Insanity Road strips are still not up, which will definitely be remedied in the next 24 hours. It's been a fine balance between having time to get them all tidied up and webified and stuff, and actually having time to draw one each week.

Like Brendon said, it is me holding up the production side of things this year, but, in my defence, it's twice as much paper to fill, and the quality is, I think, much higher. Plus, you should see the 'scripts' I have to work with. This week's comic, for example, consists of a one-sentence description scrawled diagonally across the page. Bitter? Me?

On the plus side, the ideas are coming thick and fast for Term 2's story. I'm not at liberty to divulge details (read: we still haven't written anything concrete), but it looks pretty damn good.

Hitting the Road

The first two installments of Insanity Road have appeared in Canta magazine. So far the general response has been along the lines of 'what the--?'

This doesn't surprise me. I'm sure that people will get the hang of the new style soon enough.

On a personal note, I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that this year it isn't me cutting it fine with deadlines. Eh Matt?

Almost there... aaaalmost theeere...

Well, I've finally finished the first episode of Insanity Road, and as soon as I've finished overhauling the website (and believe me, it'll be worth it!) I can put it up here in all its glory.

It's a big effort. So much more detail than anything I drew for DoI, and all the characters have to have noses! I know, I know. But it's good, I promise.

The interesting part was when Ian [the editor] realised we were asking for a whole page, instead of the half we'd previously been allocated. But I promised never to put him in it, so I think he's kind of happy. I haven't heard back from the designer yet to say he got the final copy, but I'll take it in on a disc tomorrow.

This is it, baby!
